Official Rules & Guidelines

About the Contest

Shelby Main Street is excited to launch the 3rd Annual Downtown Banner Art Contest, and this year's theme is all about Downtown Shelbyville!

Artists of all ages who live or work in Shelby County are invited to submit original artwork inspired by the people, places, history, architecture, events, and charm of downtown Shelbyville. All artistic mediums are welcome. Show us what makes Downtown Shelbyville shine and help turn our streets into an outdoor art gallery!

Eligibility

  • Open to artists of all ages who live or work in Shelby County, Kentucky.
  • Individual artists may submit multiple entries.
  • All artwork must be the original creation of the submitting artist.

Theme Requirements

  • All entries must clearly relate to Downtown Shelbyville.

  • Artwork may feature, but is not limited to:

    • Historic buildings and architecture
    • Local businesses
    • Downtown events and festivals
    • Public art and landmarks
    • Shelbyville's history and heritage
    • Community life and culture
    • Streetscapes, parks, and gathering spaces

  • Entries that do not reflect the Downtown Shelbyville theme will not be considered.

Artwork Requirements

  • Any artistic medium is permitted, including:

    • Painting
    • Drawing
    • Photography
    • Digital art
    • Mixed media
    • Other printable visual art forms

  • Artwork must be submitted in a digital format suitable for printing.

  • Entries should be designed for a vertical banner format.

  • Final banners will measure 30 inches wide by 60 inches tall.

  • Submitted files must:

    • Be high resolution (minimum 150 dpi at final print size)
    • Be capable of scaling to 30" x 60" without loss of quality
    • Be submitted as a JPG, PNG, or PDF file
    • Not contain copyrighted material, logos, trademarks, or images for which the artist does not have permission

Submission Deadline

  • All entries must be received no later than Friday, February 26, 2027, at 11:59 p.m.

Judging & Public Voting

  • Eligible entries will be displayed for public voting during the month of March 2027.
  • Voting details will be announced by Shelby Main Street.
  • The 13 designs receiving the highest vote totals will be selected as winners.

Selected Artwork

  • The 13 winning designs will be professionally reproduced as downtown banners.
  • Winning banners will be displayed on downtown Shelbyville lampposts beginning in May 2027.
  • Shelby Main Street reserves the right to make minor formatting adjustments necessary for production.

Artist Rights & Permissions

  • Artists retain ownership of their original artwork.
  • By entering the contest, artists grant Shelby Main Street permission to:
    • Display submitted artwork for judging and public voting
    • Reproduce winning artwork on banners
    • Use submitted artwork in promotional materials, social media, websites, news releases, and future marketing related to the contest
  • Artists will receive credit whenever reasonably possible.

Disqualification

Entries may be disqualified if they:

  • Are submitted after the deadline
  • Do not relate to the Downtown Shelbyville theme
  • Contain offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content
  • Infringe upon another person's copyright, trademark, or intellectual property
  • Do not meet the technical requirements outlined above

General Conditions

  • Submission of an entry constitutes acceptance of all contest rules.
  • Shelby Main Street reserves the right to modify contest details, judging procedures, or timelines if necessary.
  • Decisions made by Shelby Main Street regarding eligibility and contest administration are final.
